Title: Coating an 80
Post by: Shlumpy85 on March 14, 2017, 08:28:52 PM
Does anyone know the rules/laws on getting a finished 80 coated? Would you be able to bring it somewhere or do you also have to do that yourself?

If it is already machined then it would have to be coated by the owner (presumably you) or someone that has a license to work on firearms. It's possible that the licensee would require the lower to be marked with all of the relative information a regular firearm would have so they can log it into their book.

There are many DIY firearm finishes available. Duracoat, Cerakote, Gunkote, and alumahyde just to name a few.
Some require baking, some use a hardener and some just air dry. Those that require a separate catalyst are more durable than the air dry types. My personal favorite is Duracoat.
